So this is a poem I just wrote yesterday while I was in class...don't judge me...lol and decided to share (I do copyright my work so save yourself the trouble...lol :D ) I normally do not share because I am an artist and I am sensitive about my ish...lol Well here it is hope you enjoy.
In Her Shadow
I know this girl, I am the shadow of her.
I live in that back, do all the work and get no slack, as it were.
I am darker than her, always a step behind.
She doesn't even see she's steppin on me
Her blues just ain't like mine
We dated the same man once but he prefers her over me.
See she is much more fair, and her hair is long and wavy.
She toyed with his emotions and she put him on a shelf.
She made him pay for her misgivings because she barely knows herself.
I attended to his health
Built him an empire of wealth and he'd give it all to her
But if I ask for anything more, I'd be shown the door like I'm a gold digger.
While I love him with everything I got he hangs her over me to show me what I'm not
Capable, but brown all the same
Invisible to him. Does he see me does he even know my name?
I seek to heal his wound and love him to his soul
Instead he seeks her every measure waiting for HER joy to unfold.
She is beauty with no substance, her intentions are not for his care.
She loves him less than me yet he is unaware.
Because I am brown, I must be everything that she is not
Resourceful, charming, witty , Such a pity!
He deems her pretty, so she can get buy with less than half of what I got!
I am brown and she is light, so he holds her as a prize.
But when she's away he wants to stay and it renders me no surprise
In the dark of the day he wants to play between the rise of the brown girls thighs.
In her sight he See's me as average but I must contest!
Your mother was the same shade of brown as me
So i say contrarily, is she second best?
But brown girls we appear invisible at times in the shade of the light!
have you ever felt this way, being this girls shadow has no reason or rhyme.
She is black and so am I but I swear her blues just ain't like mine!
Patrice XOXOXOX
positive feedback welcome below...be blessed!
I love this...as a writer I appreciate the thought of it all. And I'm the same way. I don't post because I'm sensitive about mine too. But I thank you for posting and putting it on FB so that I can have the opportunity to step out and post mine as well.
